Week 2 - Recap

By The Commissioner Tue Sep 16 7:27pm CT

What a week!  After a slow start kicking off the season, a lot of players rebounded with an excellent performance in Week 2.  This isn’t as surprising being that defenses usually get going on the season before offenses.  And, boy, did the offenses show up this week!

Before we dive into this week’s recap, there was a scoring adjustment made this week impacting the results from one game last week.  I missed notification went it came out but it resulted in unbreaking the 52-52 tie between The Dream Killers and The Folk Yo’ Couch Ninjas!  After a 1-point adjustment, The Dream Killer won 52-51.

This week we had two Games of the Week; Fear Thy Naber (1-0) vs. New Kid on the Block (1-0) and Gridiron Guru (1-0) vs. Louisianimal Ratchets (1-0).

Fear Thy Naber (1-0) vs. New Kid on the Block (1-0).  Our first game was a battle of divisions leaders in the Wilbon Conference.  The New Kid on the Block jumped out early and kept throwing blows, ending with 6 of 8 starters scoring in double digits.  Fear Thy Naber tried to keep up with a few shots of her own but, in the end, The New Kid on the Block defeated her comfortably, 97-73.  The Kid appears to have the Naber’s number, reminding her who runs the block!

Gridiron Guru (1-0) vs. Louisianimal Ratchets (1-0).  Our second game was a battle of divisions leaders in the Korheiser Conference.  This game was similar to our first.  Louisianimal Ratchets jumped out to an early lead and had 6 of 8 starters scoring double-digit points.  Gridiron Guru also tried to keep up with a few double-digits scoring but couldn’t keep up.  The Ratchets won handedly, 95-72.

The most explosive game this week goes to the San Antonio Shockers (0-1) vs. The Lion King!!! (0-1).  When we talked about this week being a rebound for a lot of players, The Lion King!!! was the main beneficiary of those performances.  After scoring only 28 points in Week 1, The Lion King!!! exploded for 136 points this week, finishing with seven players scoring double-digits, including this week’s top performer, Jared Goff (42), and dominating the Shockers, 136-42.  The Lion King!! deployed an interesting draft strategy this year, drafting damn near the entire Detroit Lions’ team, and it raised eyebrows.  But, if they maintain this level of production, them Lions will be difficult to beat!

There wasn’t a true most competitive game this week, being settled within a few points, but we will take look at Mudd Butt (0-1) vs. Gotham City Enforcers (0-1).  This game was close from the start.  They put up comparable points on Thursday.  Sunday, the Enforcers started to walk off and finished with four double-digit scorers, led by Amon-Ra St. Brown (26) and Spencer Shrader (18).  Mudd Butt kept close with that top performance from Jared Goff, and contribution from Josh Jacobs (10).  At the end of the night, the Enforcers led by 13, 81-68.  However, Mudd Butt still had two guys going Monday night.  He cut into the lead in the first game with Emeka Egbuka (7) and sealed the deal in the second game with his kicker, Daniel Carson (13), completing the comeback with 88-81 win.

Other games to highlight this week were ones benefiting from the higher scoring week.  The Uptown Hot Boys (1-0) defeated 2 Da Money (1-1), 112-51, led by Lamar Jackson (31) and James Cook (23).  The 2TRILL Chevy Rider (1-1) defeated Deez Nuts (0-2), 104-53, led by Amon-Ra St. Brown and Brandon Aubrey (26).

Next week’s Game of the Week is Jones Boys (1-1) vs. The Lion King!!! (1-1).  These two are part of a three-way tie for the Mail Time Division lead.  A win here takes control of the division and picks up a crucial second division win.

See you next week!
