Week 1 of the NFL is in the books! It was an exciting start to the season with some great games, ranging from the Cowboys vs. Eagles kickoff to the Sunday night battle between the Ravens and Bills. Football is back!!
To recap the weekly action, we’ll look at the Game of the Week and the most explosive and competitive game(s) of the week, as well as other notable games. Let’s see how the fantasy season opened.
This week’s Game of the Week was 2 Da Money vs. NY KILLERS. Questions lingered as to if 2 Da Money was for real or just lucky, and if the KILLERS still had it. This match was competitive early on as both teams struggled putting up points. However, when Sunday night rolled around, 2 Da Money showed his strength, putting up 77 points from his trio of Josh Allen (35), Derrick Henry (28), and Zay Flowers (14) to take control. The KILLERS tried to keep pace but didn’t have enough and 2 Da Money walked off with a 98-60 victory. 2 Da Money made it clear that he is FOR REAL, and the KILLERS are looking past their time.
There wasn’t an explosive game this week, although, the Game of the Week could have qualified for it, but we will share the love by highlighting other games. Instead, let’s look at the widest margin of victory, which goes to the Deez Nuts vs. REGULATORS game. Deez Nuts struggled out of the gate, catching a couple of donuts, and was never able to get going. The REGULATORS started much better, cashing in on Baker Mayfield (23), Bijon Robinson (16), and Chase Brown (10), and mounted a 37-point victory, 72-35.
Our most competitive game was The Dream Killers vs. The Folk Yo Couch Ninjas! It was so competitive they ended their match in a 52-52 tie. Both teams had balanced scoring from their players and were led by their kickers. These guys refused to lose to start the season. They’ll have to wait until next week, though, to try to get their first win.
Another game of interest, The Action Jacksons vs. Dak to the Future, was another potential tied game. The Action Jacksons sprung out to an early lead, going into the Sunday night game up by 16 points. Dak to the Future shot back in a flash with Zay Flower but came up short, and The Action Jacksons held on for the 56-54 victory.
Coming into the week, we highlighted the preliminary power ranking leaders so let’s see how they did. We already saw the NY KILLER catching an “L” so what about 2TRILL Chevy Riders, Gatorbait, and Gotham City Enforcers.
2TRILL Chevy Riders vs. Juke Move. Them Chevy Riders started off fast with four double-digit scorers but lost power after that. Juke Move saw the Chevy sputtering and made a move with five double-digit scorers of his own, led by Derrick Henry, to leave 2TRILL in the dust, 93-54.
Gatorbait vs. West Point Green Waves. Gatorbait never made it out of the swap, not getting a lot of production from his team. The Green Waves had more balanced scoring and a big hitter from Lamar Jackson (29), washing out Gatorbait 77-43.
Cooper Road Cougars vs. Gotham City Enforcers. The Cougars started quickly with Patrick Mahomes (22) and Bijan Robinson, and built a comfortable lead with Zay Flowers. The Enforcers wouldn’t be pushed around and responded with four double-digit scorers, though, low totals. It came down to the Monday Night Football game, Vikings vs. Bears, and the Enforcers were on defense, trying to pull out the win. He put up a good fight but didn’t have enough muscle, and the Cougars roared to a 71-59 victory.
So, all four conference power rankings leaders lost in the first week. That shows rankings mean nothing and power can shift at any moment!
This opening week was so much fun, for next week’s Game of the Week, let’s have a doubleheader!!
Fear Thy Naber (1-0) vs. New Kid on the Block (1-0)
Gridiron Guru (1-0) vs. Louisianimal Ratchets (1-0)
These teams are the division leaders in the Kornheiser and Wilbon Conferences and will test the strength of the conferences.
See you next week!
